Word of the Week – Cloud

Each Friday, I would like to share a word of the week with you. Something that summarises what I’ve been up to, how I’ve felt and how life is generally going. I’d love if you’d share one in the comments. It can be so therapeutic to reflect on what’s been happening, good or bad!

This week I have chosen the word Cloud

Starting with the weather (we are in the UK after all) it has been really cloudy and wet outside for a couple of days now and it’s making the whole house dark and grey. Normally I like the rain and the cloud but it has been quite gloomy. We had the longest summer and now all of a sudden it feels like winter is round the corner.

The cloud has been reflected in my mood too. Do you ever have those weeks where you just feel like you have a cloud over you and the whole time your head is filled with a fog? You still get on with everything and go about your day as usual but you do things a bit slower and time seems to pass without you noticing too much of what’s going on.

It’s a bit strange to describe, but I feel like I’ve just looked up from my laptop to find that the week has gone and I’m not quite sure how I spent it. I know I did the work I needed too, although maybe not as soon as I’d hoped. The house is tidy and mostly *cough* clean and my washing is done. We’ve eaten nice meals (thanks to my better half) and we’ve even celebrated a family birthday. But still time seems to have vanished.

Knowing that I’ve still been productive does help, but I hate missing out on the moment. There has been a lot of focus in recent years about the importance of being present and I think that’s something I need to practice more of. Do any of you have techniques that you practice to make sure you do this?

So there it is, my word of the week and a summary of the past seven days.

  1. I think we all have weeks like this where we look back and aren’t quite sure where the time went and what we did with it – I know I certainly do. Feeling like your head is filled with fog is a good way to describe it. For me, taking a moment each day to share something I was thankful for helps me focus on what I did with the day. Hope the clouds clear for you a bit next week! 🙂 #WotW

    1. I’ve been following your gratitude posts Louise, I think it’s something I should try myself. It’s a wonderful idea! I might keep my own in my diary, I can imagine that would be lovely to look back on 🙂 #WotW

  2. Oh yes, I know what you mean. I often think where has the week gone and it’s not nice. It would be so nice to set aside just a little time each week to do something for yourself, or have a little family fun. Something to create a happy or pleasant memory at the end of the week.

    1. I think that’s what it is Anne. I’ve had my head stuck into my laptop working all week and I’ve been so busy I’ve not really taken the time to switch off. Hopefully a quiet weekend will help 🙂 #WotW

    1. It’s not cleared up today unfortunately Kim but we’re due to have thunder and lightening tomorrow so hopefully that will clear it up 🙂 #WotW

  3. I know what you mean, I have days and weeks like that. it is so hard to be completely present, isn’t it? i find my weeks roll by from one half term until the next and I am not always sure where they went! I am better at the weekends as I let go of to-do lists and just focus on moment to moment x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

    1. I’m the same Jocelyn. I suppose being fully with it at the weekend is something! I’m normally good at switching off and focusing on friends and family then thankfully. Hoping for a clearer week next week 🙂 #WotW

  4. Hasn’t it been so grey and miserable? But I am still loving the colours of all the leaves that we can kick as we walk around. I’m focussing on those. x #WOTW

    1. Oh absolutely Jo, I’ll be taking a long walk in some crunchy leaves as soon as the weather dries up 🙂 #WotW

  5. I definitely have weeks like this too, the weather does tend to affect the mood I find. We had one day of blue skies and the rest of the week has been so gloomy. This whole year seems to flying by doesn’t it. I hope you can find some time this weekend to enjoy the moment I intend to do just that on Sunday x #wotw
