Word of the Week – Preparing

Each Friday, I would like to share a word of the week with you. Something that summarises what I’ve been up to, how I’ve felt and how life is generally going. I’d love if you’d share one in the comments. It can be so therapeutic to reflect on what’s been happening, good or bad!

This week I have chosen the word Preparing

Over the last few days I have spent a lot of time preparing for upcoming days and events. Firstly, my best friend is coming to visit this weekend. I’m sooooo looking forward to it as we haven’t seen each other in a good while now. It does mean that I have to clean the house top to bottom though. Is anyone else like that? Yes I clean my house weekly, but when I have guests coming to stay all of a sudden it’s like the queen is coming or something. I suppose I just want to make the place nice and homely for them which isn’t a bad thing.

Christmas is flying towards us at the speed of light it seems, so I’ve been preparing for that too! Most gifts are now bought or at the very least planned and I think I have enough wrapping paper left over from last year so that saves me a trip out to the shops. We also picked up our Christmas cards a few weeks ago, so I might start writing those soon, or at the very least compile addresses which I mean to do ever year and then forget! All plans have been made with regards to catching up with friends when I go back home for a few days and even our hogmanay (new years eve for any non scottish folk that don’t say funny words like hogmanay) tickets are booked.

For the long term, I’ve also been doing a bit more preparation for our wedding in Spring next year. Just small things at the moment, like getting invitations ready to go and figuring out how I’d like my make-up to be done. Everyone says this I’m sure, but I could swear we had 12 full months to go last week…now we’re down to 6. Eek!

    1. Thanks Louise 🙂 Thankfully I don’t have too much to do for Christmas or the wedding so that definitely makes it a lot more manageable! #WotW

  1. Yes, I am the same, the house has to be clean from top to bottom if someone is coming to stay. I bet they don’t even notice! Preparing is a good word for this time of the year, and you’ve a wedding to prepare for too. We were a bit hasty with our wedding giving ourselves only 7 months notice, plus it was a winter wedding (anniversary next Monday) and it was a nightmare to get a venue for the reception because everywhere is snapped up in June for Christmas parties!
Have a fabulous weekend with your friend and thanks for joining in with #Wotw xx

    1. It’s so silly isn’t it Anne? You can guarantee that noone takes a magnifying glass to your house or runs a finger along the top of the doors, but they have to be clean!! Madness…but I’ll continue to do it. haha! Yes we’ve given ourselves a full 18 months from the time we booked the venue so it’s quite a relaxed process thankfully. The key was to keep it simple I think 🙂 #WotW

  2. Have an amazing time with your best friend I love catching up with friends and omg yes Christmas seems to be speeding towards us! But I love the festivities its so exciting and omg 6 months till your wedding, I would love to plan a wedding again now I have my Cricut you can make all sorts on it x

    1. Thank you Sarah! Yes, it’s coming round so quickly. I was tempted to make a lot of things myself but to ensure we don’t get stressed I’m keeping everything at bay. I’ll still have some creative fun of course, I can’t go completely hands off 😛 #WotW

    1. Thank you so much Cheryl 🙂 Thankfully I don’t have too much to organise for Christmas so I’m cheating a little! #WotW

  3. You sound very organised.. I need Hubby to get one of the Christmas boxes down from the loft so I can check on the state of Santa sacks and see how much wrapping stuff we have!

    1. Well see that’s actually my first hurdle Karen, we don’t have a ladder to get up to our loft at the moment! It’s on order, hoping we can get up there soon 🙂 #WotW
