It feels like we’re always in a mini-battle with our homes. Some days, we love where we live, and all seems right with the world. On other days, we’re looking around at our humble abodes, and we’re suitably unimpressed; the crack in the wall seems bigger, the garden is nothing much to look at, and all the furniture seems to be standard issue – there’s nothing unique about it. The good news is that you don’t have to settle for this less than impressed feeling, and you don’t need to have a big overhaul, either. You can improve your home just by making some subtle changes. We take a look at a few tried and tested recommendations below.
Change the Lighting
Of all the aspects of our homes, none are quite as underrated as the lighting. It has such a big impact on the look and feel of our properties! And if you doubt how much difference light can make, just take a look at the effects that it has on a person’s face. One person can have multiple looks, depending on where the light is being shone! So if you’re currently relying on one harsh overhead light and can’t figure out why your room isn’t popping…that’ll probably be the reason.
Get Rid of Clutter
We’re a society that likes to accumulate material goods. There’s nothing wrong with that, to begin with, but when multiplied by a few years, they can begin to weigh down our properties. Our home’s are overflowing with goods – which eventually becomes junk and rubbish – and this makes it all the more difficult to sink into the deep comfort that they (should) provide. So take action. Get in touch with the cheapest rubbish removal service, and have a clear out. When you walk back into your home after everything has been cleared away, you’ll feel a sense of relief: you’ll have taken back control of your home.
Hack Your Furniture
You can’t go out and buy a new furniture set every time you’re mildly bored with your current set. You’d end up spending far too much money! And in any case, that’s a big, stressful job. Instead, why not look at making subtle improvements to your furniture when boredom begins to set in? There a bunch of easy to do Ikea furniture hacks that’ll have your tables, desks, and chairs looking like new – and unique – and all it’ll take is a couple of hours of work.
On the Outside
We’re often pretty adept at keeping the inside of our property look pretty neat and orderly. But the outside is often neglected, even by people who take deep pride in their home! Boosting this area is one way to make your home look and feel better – it’s a way to set the tone for your home. Plant some flowers, trim the hedge, and make the doorway more visually appealing. You can hang a basket, or change the colour of your front door, for instance. Easy to do, big impact!
