My Goals for November 2019

After almost a year without my goal setting posts I have decided to bring them back. I love having a target to focus on, big or small. It helps me to find direction and stay motivated when I otherwise might become a little too laid back with work and life in general. I’m very much someone who likes to enjoy the moment but I also like to make sure that I’m always moving forward.

Do my Christmas shopping

Now that Halloween is out of the way, I feel like it’s OK to bring up Christmas! I like to get myself organised in November so that when December comes around I can relax into full festive mode. The cosy clothes go on, the Christmas films are on the tele and I know that I don’t have to battle the crazy crowds in the shops.

This year, I only have a few people to buy for. We’ve decided to do Secret Santa on both my side of the family and my husband’s. It means spending less and a lot less stress for everyone. I already have some ideas so it should be relatively straight forward. I might even be able to do a lot of it online!

Grow my stationery business

You may have read about my stationery business, Pippin Prints, in some of my previous posts. It has always been more of a side project as I have focused on my freelancing work. In recent years I have relied heavily on Etsy to sell my products and essentially left the business to do it’s own thing.

Now I’m making the scary but important transition over to having a website of my own and growing Pippin Prints into a more serious business. Products need to be added, blog posts need to be written and then there is the marketing side of things. My brain is going a bit crazy with all the to do lists I have written but it’s a move that I’m really excited about. By doing a little bit each day my hope is that I can achieve a lot over the next month.

Eat a healthier diet

In the past I have had an unhealthy attitude towards food and losing weight. I would count calories and be really hard on myself if I ate badly whilst trying to slim down. Thankfully that has changed considerably in recent months. I’ve been seeing a lot of “just eat the carbs” images all over social media and it is so refreshing. The attitude is that when we deprive ourselves we create a very damaging relationship with food and actually end up eating more in the long run. Instead, just eat the carbs. Have the unhealthy snack. Enjoy a drink.

My eating is always at it’s best when I just relax and make sure that I am finding a reasonable balance between the good and the bad. As I write this I am drinking a hot chocolate and eating a brownie. In days gone by I would have fretted about calories. Now I’m just enjoying it. Before Christmas comes around and the comfort food is everywhere, I’m going to make an even more conscious effort to be well balanced and stay healthy whilst remaining happy.

Meditate every day

My mental health is another topic which I’ve discussed in the past. I’ve been working on understanding my thoughts more and what I might be able to do to help them and in the process I’ve discovered meditation. The improvements I have seen are already incredible. My moods feel more balanced and day to day life has become far more enjoyable.

As is very typical for me however, I find myself dipping in and out of this habit. The days when I meditate I feel wonderful. If I forget to pause and take a breath however, I experience far more negativity. My goal is to meditate every single day in November and to continue experiencing the benefits.

Spend more time reading

Earlier this month I visited the most incredible book shop and it reminded me just how nice it is to curl up with a good paper back. I love my Kindle. It is so handy, perfect for travelling and keeps my space for me, I always forget a bookmark! Even so, it just doesn’t compare to a real book!

I’ve already told my husband that we need to set aside a day in November to head to the Waterstones in town and pick something each to read. We might go into Lush too, they’ll have the Christmas range in now and Liverpool have a huge shop. I’m so ready to dive into my new book in a festive smelling bath!
